Moving to Billings, Montana? Why choosing the right Realtor can make a big difference.

So, you’ve talked to the kids, informed friends, and told the schools. It’s official, we’re moving to Billings, Montana.

Now What?

Where will we live?

Which schools should we send our kids to?

Which parts of Billings should we consider living in, and what the heck is the Billings Heights?

The questions are endless and the feelings can be overwhelming. Here are some things to consider when choosing the right Realtor, making your move to Billings, Montana a breeze.

You’ll need a Tour Guide

Many times, a Realtor is the key liaison between you and your new community. After all, the biggest concern when making a relocation move is finding a place to live. Any Realtor with a lock box key can show you homes in Billings, but what about the other questions and concerns keeping you awake at night? A good Realtor will be a makeshift tour guide instead of someone who is just trying to make a sale. They should be able to tell you about the intricacies of Billings’ neighborhoods, what grocery stores are nearby, and what the traffic is like during the 8am commute. A good Realtor will also be able to inform about the lesser-known things and attractions, like the quaint and well located Poly Food Basket, a small grocery store in the heart of Billings with a superb butcher, or my recent out of state client moving here that was into Frisbee golf. I don’t play Frisbee golf myself, but because I grew up in Billings, I was able to talk with confidence about a little known Frisbee golf course on the far NW end of Billings. My client called me after their first summer here and thanked me for mentioning the course. He said it was one of the top Frisbee golf courses he’s ever played. Little things like this can go a long way in helping you get comfortable in Billings, Montana.

You’ll want Referrals

A good Realtor will be able to refer you to solid people in almost any industry. Whether it be guitar lessons for your child or a Cross Fit gym for an active adult. You’ll most certainly have questions BEFORE you move to Billings, so make sure you ask your Realtor to assist you. If they can’t assist, you might want to look for a better fit. Most Realtors can give referrals for a handyman, roofer, or plumber, but what about the things that make your life more enjoyable, your hobbies, your dreams? I would say that these things factor into your move as much as anything else. Hiring a Realtor that truly knows the market and has contacts outside of the Real Estate circle will have you enjoying the quality of life Billings offers on day one.

Choosing between a Full-time vs. a Part-time Realtor

One of my biggest pet peeves is a professional who doesn’t answer their phone. A full-time Realtor will answer your call or get back to you promptly, regardless of the date and time. Don’t be afraid to ask a Realtor if they are part-time or full-time. Over half of Billings Realtors work part-time. Don’t expect full service from a part-time Realtor, they simply won’t be able to dedicate their time to you. Real Estate is a tough gig with crazy hours; time is of the essence when looking for your perfect home. If a Realtor answers their phone or calls back in a timely manner, chances are good they’ll be available when the perfect house comes up for sale too.

There are so many reason’s that people decide to move to a new city; a job transfer, moving closer to family, or just for a change in scenery. Hiring a good Realtor can be immensely beneficial in making your move to Billings, Montana, a good experience. I’m glad you chose Billings and I’d love the opportunity to make your move easier.
